CALLIGRAPHY
Calligraphy is the art of aesthetic writing with the letters of the Qur’an. The people who practice this art are called calligraphers (hattat). The art of calligraphy has been practiced since the birth of Islam. But this art lived its heyday in the Ottoman period. It is said that the Qur’an was revealed in Mecca, read in Cairo and written in İstanbul. Because the art of calligraphy, which aims to write the Qur’an beautifully, reached its peak in the Ottoman period.
In the art of calligraphy, there is type of kufic (kufi) with angular letters and there are types of naskh (nesih), sülüs, rika, tomar, muhakkak and gubari with rounded letters. This art, which is the highest level of the art of writing, immortalizes verses, hadiths and beautiful words. It leads us to morality spiritually. It adorns our lifes sas well as our walls. Seeds of spirituality are sprouting in our sauls with the unique works of calligraphers.
